Choosing a massage cushion or device for the back
Three formats share the range, and they do not meet the same need. The massage cushion rests against the back of an armchair, an office chair or a car seat: it works on a precise area, neck, trapezius or lower back. The massaging seat back covers the full height of the back and straps onto the seat. The massage mat unrolls on the floor or on the bed and you lie on it.
Heat, vibration or rotating nodes
Heat, around 40 to 50 °C, relaxes without asking anything of you: it is the gentlest setting, the one used in the evening. Vibration acts on the surface and suits long areas such as the whole back. Rotating nodes, known as shiatsu, apply a more marked point pressure on the trapezius and lower back; it is the most intense mode, to be tried in short sessions at first.
Duration and safety
The heated devices in the range switch off by themselves at the end of the cycle, generally after fifteen to twenty minutes. This is a useful safety feature: it is easy to doze off on them. Always place a garment or cover between the skin and a heated surface, and do not use these devices on an inflamed, injured or numb area.
