Neck pillow: height, material and sleeping position
A neck pillow hollows out a space for the head and raises the area that supports the neck. The aim is simple: keep the head in line with the spine rather than bent forward or to the side.
Choosing according to position
On your back, a low profile is enough: too much height pushes the chin towards the chest. On your side, on the contrary, you need to fill the space between the ear and the shoulder, so a higher pillow. On your stomach, as flat as possible. Models with a pronounced curve and a marked roll suit back sleepers above all; the butterfly shape, cut away at the sides, leaves room for the shoulders.
Memory foam, latex or bamboo
Memory foam sinks under body heat and envelops: it is the softest feel. Natural latex is firmer and bouncier, does not deform and ventilates better. Bamboo fibre covers wick away moisture and are machine washable.
Neck massagers
Different from sleep pillows, they rest on the trapezius and rotate nodes under gentle heat, for a cycle of ten to twenty minutes. They switch off by themselves at the end of the programme.
Precautions
A new pillow often needs a few nights of adjustment. These items are comfort products, not medical devices; in case of neck pain that lasts, the advice of a healthcare professional remains the reference.
