Posture corrector: what it does, what it does not do
A posture corrector pulls the shoulders back and makes the slumping of the torso noticeable. It acts as a mechanical reminder: as soon as you hunch, the strap tightens and you feel it. It does not straighten a spine on its own and does not replace back strengthening.
The three families
The figure-of-eight model with crossed straps is the lightest and most discreet under clothing. The model with a frame adds stays in the back for firmer support, suited to long days sitting. The so-called invisible versions are worn under a shirt without showing, at the cost of lighter support.
How long to wear it
Start with twenty to thirty minutes a day, then increase gradually over two to three weeks. Continuous wear is not recommended: the back muscles must keep working. Most users find a good compromise around one to two hours a day, during the periods when posture deteriorates.
Size and comfort
Adjustment is based on chest circumference; check the range given on the product page. The straps must be firm without marking the armpits. These are comfort items and not medical devices; in case of scoliosis, herniated disc or persistent pain, the advice of a healthcare professional is essential.
